A. V. Brushlinsky's Contribution
to Criticism of Cultural‑Historical Theory of Thinking

The article is devoted to A. V. Brushlinsky's scientific creative work. The methodological and historical‑psychological value of his first scientific monograph "Cultural‑Historical Theory of Thinking" (1968) is considered. Publications for the last ten years tracing A. V. Brushlinsky's contribution to studying L. S. Vygotsky's creative work are presented and briefly commented. The orientation of his main conclusions is analyzed. The reasons of the lack of scientific discussions between representatives and followers of L. S. Vygotsky's school in the 1960s are discussed. It is shown that the beginning of discussions on the principles of the cultural‑historical theory of thinking, in the Russian and international terms, happens only in 1990s. As a result, it is noted that throughout the life, A. V. Brushlinsky consistently studied and developed the criticism of the cultural‑historical theory of thinking.

Keywords: cultural‑historical theory of thinking; subject‑activity approach; sign‑oriented theory; social‑oriented theory; interiorization; psyche; theory of highest psychological functions; zone of proximal development; Soviet psychology; A. V. Brushlinsky; L. S. Vygotsky; "the Khrushchev's thaw"; history of scientific ideas
